BONSAI PERFORMANCE &
SOUND INSTALLATION
Curation at MUTEK Tokyo, Japan

A collaboration with bonsai artist, Masashi Hirao, and sound artist, Sakias, was held to shed light on a fading Japanese heritage to a diverse audience, challenging the conventional image of bonsai as expensive hobby for the older generation.

The live bonsai sculpturing was in sync with the surround sound performance with eight speakers. Spatiality brought the concept to life, and elevated the core elements of watering, pruning, and the touch of soil. The performance at MUTEK JP sought to reconnect the relationship between humans and plants.
